
OVERVIEW:
Noamundi is a much-developed town in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state. It is a tiny town famous for mining and situated very close to the Odisha border. Iron ore is the primary producer of the area. Several mines are located particularly in this area and are ruined by Tata steel and provide employment to the local people hare. As the city is close to Odisha border, some of the iron mines are also located in Odisha's part. In Odisha parts, it is known as Katamati. Tata steel used to convert these iron ores in a blast furnace to get the required product. But in 1986 it was closed because it was not economical to extract ore in this area. As per the legends, a few years before the first Adivasi people used to stay in this area. At first, they had no idea about iron ore and other things, but the local people used an iron ax. If someone asked them where they got these weapons, they always pointed their hands towards Noamundi hills. The local tribal community in his are known as Ho people. But during recent years illegal mining has reached up to a greater extent, so this is the leading cause of the Naxal movement in these areas.
Murga Mahadev Temple: It is a beautiful temple located on the top of the Murga hills and a significant tourist attraction in the locality. A small waterfall adjunct to the temple magnifies its beauty up to a greater extent. This temple is dedicated to Hindu god Shiva, and in the month of Shravan, thousands of devotees came to the place to pour water on the Shivling.
Hudco Lake: This lake is another beauty of nature located near the Telco colony and an excellent tourist place. This lake is located next to Mulgaonkar park and attracts tourists towards itself. The majority of tourists came here to spend a little time with nature along with the lush greenery of the forest. View of the park and the lake from the top of the hill can not be explained in words. A lake is also a perfect place for boating and other recreational activity.
Dalma hills: This hill is situated at a height of 3000ft from mean sea level. The hill is covered by dense forest, and the beautiful Subarnarekha river flows through it. This place is nothing but heaven for trekkers and rock climbers. It is also a home to different varieties of flora and fauna. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located on the top of the temple. Spending a night inside the forest and mountain itself a fantastic experience for every tourist.
The place is located at an elevation of 487 meters. It is located in the core of the Sarananda forest and known for its densest deciduous forest. According to the local community it is known as the land of 700 hills. Besides the dense forest, the place is the storehouse of various mineral resources. Iron ores like Hematite and Magnetite are found in this region, so huge companies like Tata operates ere. So the area is developing rapidly day by day.
As the town is well developed so we can get good connectivity here. One can travel to the place in the airway, railway, and roadways. The nearest airport is in Ranchi which is about 130 kilometers from here and connected with major cities of India. Inside Noamundi, there is a railway station so good connectivity.
Wheat, maize, and jowar are the staple diet of this region. Lentil and Arhar dal are an essential part of the menu. Along with namkeens, they have a sweet tooth too. Khurma, Petha, Jalebi, Moong Dal Ka Halwa, and Tikhur Barfi. The bafauri is a traditional sweet of Noamundi. The key ingredient here is channa dal. A local drink often consumed by the localities is Mahuwa, made from the tree with the same name. The city has managed to make its identity and stand out.
Two days are sufficient to explore Noamundi. The ambiance is perfect. The best time to visit the place would be October-February. The backpackers can have a budget plan of 1.5-2 thousand ensuring a pocket-friendly stay. For Mid-range travelers, it would be around 2.5-3 thousand, with decent stay and convenient transport service.
And for luxury tourists, the budget can go up to 5-6 thousand promising an exciting and comfortable experience.
