Indulge in the Glory of Almighty Shiva

Nestled in the foothill of Himalayas is the beautiful Srinagar. This historic town of Srinagar is situated on the bank of Alaknanda River. Srinagar makes an important tourist destination not just because of its natural beauty but for its several temples as well. Kilikileshwar Mahadev, built by Adi Shankaracharya, is one such temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is located opposite the River Alaknanda’s bank. The ancient temple holds immense importance and is a well-known tourist and religious destination.

Surrounded by the Himalayas, the burbling river, and cold winds flowing aside, Chauras is a very beautiful place in Srinagar, popular for the Kilkileshwar Mahadev holy shrine. While on the journey to the Char Dham, pilgrims frequently come to Kilkileshwar Mahadev to bend their heads and get the blessings from Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity in this temple and is worshiped as Bhairavlinga. There are idols of other deities also inside the temple like Lord Ganesha. Outside the main temple, a figure of Nandi is also present. Besides that, small temples of many other Gods and Goddesses are also present in this temple’s complex including Lord Hanuman, Devi Durga, and Lord Rama.

It’s believed that during Mahabharat, Arjun mediated here in the Indrakeel Mountain to get the weapon of victory from Lord Shiva – the Pashupaat Astra. Lord Shiva wanted to test the determination and grit of Arjun. He took the form of Bhil and then provoked Arjun to war with him. Arjun then lost the war and soon realized that it was God Shiva himself who fought with him to test him. Arjun then prayed to Lord Shiva and asked for forgiveness. Lord Shiva got impressed by his willpower and presented the Pashupaat Astra to him. Using this Astra, Arjun defeated the Kauravas in the war of Mahabharat.

Established by Adi Shankaracharya, the Kilkileshwar Mahadev Temple is popular among the Hindu followers and Shiva Devotees. During Shravan and Mahashivratri, this temple is jam-packed with Lord Shiva devotees. An ideal view of natural wealth is offered by the surroundings of this temple. The ripping sounds of River Alaknanda and the enthralling sight of the Himalayas adds a lot to the spiritual trip. The Kilkileshwar Temple is situated in the Chauras region and has a must-watch and beautiful landscape.
