Nestled in the foothill of Himalayas is the beautiful Srinagar. This historic town of Srinagar is situated on the bank of Alaknanda River. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity in this temple and is worshiped as Bhairavlinga. There are idols of other deities also inside the temple like Lord Ganesha. It’s believed that during Mahabharat, Arjun mediated here in the Indrakeel Mountain to get the weapon of victory from Lord Shiva – the Pashupaat Astra. Lord Shiva wanted to test the determination and grit of Arjun. He took the form of Bhil and then provoked Arjun to war with him. Arjun then lost the war and soon realized that it was God Shiva himself who fought with him to test him. Arjun then prayed to Lord Shiva and asked for forgiveness. Lord Shiva got impressed by his willpower and presented the Pashupaat Astra to him. Using this Astra, Arjun defeated the Kauravas in the war of Mahabharat.
