Known as one of the 108 Siddhi Peethas, The Purnagiri Mata Temple is situated just 20 km from Tanakpur. Purnagiri Temple refers to the mountain of good doings. The temple is known for a unique charm and attraction it has. Located at an awe-inspiring height of nearly 3000 meters above the sea level, you can easily feel the proximation to Goddess Purnagiri at the Purnagiri Temple. Purnagiri Devi is also known as Annapurna Devi, one who offers great blessings to everyone for fulfilling their food needs.

Situated atop a very high altitude mountain’s peak and coated with greenery, the Purnagiri Temple also makes a perfect spot to get yourself involved in trekking. The entire way to Purnagiri Temple from Tanakpir is filled with picturesque scenery. Since the temple is rooted in many deep beliefs, the devotees who come to this temple tie a thread to fulfill their wishes and then when they get fulfilled, they go back to the temple to untie it.

As per a legend, Daksha Prajapati, father of Sati held a sacrificial ceremony and invited everyone except Lord Shive. On finding this, Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire as a result of his father’s deed to humiliate Lord Shiva, her husband. Lord Shiva got angry after coming to know about Sati’s sacrifice and carried her body while performing Tandava in different parts of the country. It horrified all the deities in heaven as it could result in the holocaust. Seeing this, Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to cut Sati’s body in 51 pieces. The navel of Mata Sati is known to have fallen at this place where the Purnagiri temple was established.

Purnagiri Temple situated amidst divine and supernatural power of Mother nature is a must-visit temple. If you’re planning to go to a place that is surrounded by the blessing of God and peaceful vibes, then this is the perfect place for you. The temple looks vibrant and energetic especially during Navratri in April as the entire valley is filled with glory, charm, and devotional songs.
